South Luangwa National Park, Zambia
The South Luangwa National Park is one of the great wildlife wonders of the world. It is nine thousand square kilometers (3,475 square miles) of pristine wilderness situated in Zambia's Eastern Province. For many years the Luangwa Park has been visited by wildlife enthusiasts from all over the world.
Perfectly sited right next to the main entrance to the South Luangwa National Park, Flatdogs enjoys superb game viewing in and around the camp with lovely views across the Luangwa River. The flexible, professional & enthusiastic approach of their staff contributes to a fantastic safari experience.
Flatdogs is also one of the few “family friendly” camps in the Luangwa Valley welcoming children year round. Chalets are designed to comfortably accommodate families while the restaurant offers a children’s menu, flexible meal times and a nanny/listening service that allows parents to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere of the camp after the younger ones have gone to bed!&
South Luangwa National Park Game Drives and Walks:
Each drive/walk is accompanied by a fully qualified professional safari guide. Morning drives leave at 6am and return around four hours later. Afternoon/night drives depart at 4pm and return just after 8pm when the Park closes. Flatdogs is the closest camp to the entrance to the park, so guests can be first in and last out each day! Game drives cost US$50 per person per drive with a maximum of six people per vehicle. This rate does not include the National Park entry fee (payable at the gate and valid per calendar day) of US$25 per person* for International visitors or $20 per person for SADC members & Zambian residents*. Between 1st June and 31st October each year (but also for some months on either side of this) Flatdogs also offers walking safaris and half drive/half walk combination safaris. Walking safaris are conducted with a qualified walking guide and a ZAWA armed scout. Walks and combos also cost $50 per person.
Jess has been in the South Luangwa on and off since 1992 and has been involved in African wildlife safaris ever since. Both Jess and her husband Ade and their partner, Paolo have incorporated their creative ideas and individual views of the Zambian safari experience in creating the special Flatdogs experience. They have worked together over the last six years to develop Flatdogs from a simple backpacker joint, into the friendly yet organised haven for wildlife aficionados that it is today.
